Hollywood lost one of its brightest stars as the 40-year-old “Fast & Furious” actor, Paul Walker, lost his life in a tragic crash Saturday afternoon.  According to multiple sources, the actor was in Santa Clarita, California, for a car show to support relief effort for Philippine typhoon victims. Walker and his friend/business partner Roger Rodas, who was driving the Porsche they were in, both died when Rodas reportedly lost control of the car.

The actor’s representative, Ame Van Iden released a statement, saying,

“It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide. He was a passenger in a friend’s car, in which both lost their lives. We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news. Thank you for keeping his family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time. We will do our best to keep you apprised on where to send condolences. – #TeamPW”

He was best known for his acclaimed work in the action franchise, “The Fast And The Furious”,  in which he starred in five of the six movies, beginning with the very first film in June of 2001. Aside from his signature bright blue eyes and striking good looks, he was known for his humility, bravery and philanthropic endeavors.fast-furious-the-fast-and-the-furious-movies-5012351-1600-1200

According to ABC News, Universal released a statement,

All of us at Universal are heartbroken,” Universal Pictures, which has released the “Fast & Furious” franchise, said in a statement. “Paul was truly one of the most beloved and respected members of our studio family for 14 years, and this loss is devastating to us, to everyone involved with the ‘Fast and Furious’ films, and to countless fans.

Mr. Walker, unlike much of Hollywood, did not indulge in the party scene. He enjoyed the quiet life with his 15-year-old daughter, Meadow.

In March, he told “Entertainment Weekly” that he didn’t feel entirely at ease in the limelight. “I’ve always been one foot in, one foot out of this game because I’m not comfortable with being on the pedestal or the poster,” he said. “That’s just not who I am. I’m more like the grunt. I want to be the guy behind the guy.”

Hollywood, and Walker’s family and friends are deeply saddened at this sudden loss. It’s a tragedy. Walker is survived by his daughter, Meadow. In addition to his daughter, Meadow, Walker is survived by his father, Paul Walker III; his mother, Cheryl Walker; two brothers, Cody and Caleb; and a sister, Ashley.

We here at Modern Fashionisto send our deepest condolences and prayers to all of those affected by Walker and Rodas’ death.

financial-graphWe’ve finally reached the last chapter of the semester…Chapter 16. It was definitely an insightful chapter and did not disappoint. This chapter discussed the premise of reports and their association with building public perception and are instrumental in building good public relations. The chapter went as far as to discuss the different kinds of reports as well as their functions.

First, there are annual reports. Annual reports are used to keep chart of a company or organization’s financial revenue/loss for the preceding year. In PR, there are not always required but can be very useful in  building public relations in that it gives the customers detailed information on about the company as well as visual regarding figures.  Then there are financial reports. These reports keep track of spending and expenses and are usually utilized in conjunction with non profit organizations. The chapter went on to discuss how reports need to be conducted carefully and accurately by including assets, revenue and operating activities. Also, it’s important to note that reports (financial, annual and otherwise) must fiscally represent the designated timeframe especially when it comes to incorporating nonprofit organizations. I enjoyed the chapter because it touched on an element of PR that I had personally not deemed as important, and completely changed the way I viewed it.

Rap heavyweight, Eminem recently released his eighth studio album, “Marshall Mathers LP 2” which subtly serves as a follow-up to his critically acclaimed, “Marshall Mathers, LP”. Eminem proved once again that he reigns supreme in the  hip-hop realm, with first-week sales of 792,000, according to Nielsen Scoundscan. The album’s sales right rightfully give it the second-best album debut sales of the year. Regardless of the fact that it failed to hit the highest sales of the year–a crown still held by the Justin Timberlake’s 20/20 Experience, which opened in March of this year to an impressive 968,000, it still makes a relatively impressive debut for Eminem. On top of the fact that the MMLP2 has the second-best debut of 2013, it is Eminem’s second-best opening week since his 2000 Mathers LP

In a recent article with Complex magazine, the now 41 year-old rapper stated,

eminem_bomb_in_hand

“When I started recording this album, a lot of the songs that I would play for people, they were saying it reminded them of that era. Which was kinda what I was going for in the first place, but the fact that other people started taking notice made sense. It’s revisiting some themes on The Marshall Mathers LP, but it’s obviously a different time period in my life. So that’s why I wouldn’t call it a sequel. A sequel would just be a continuation of everything that was on there.”

Fans, critics and other hip-hop artists praised Eminem for his “focus, wit, and unprecedented growth” throughout the album. The founder of KWL Enterprises and former president of Def Jam Records, Kevin Liles, went on to say, “Eminem is Elvis. Eminem is one of the greatest rappers of all time. He continues to do Eminem and not chase a particular sound–and not only be an artist, but create art.”

As fans of Eminem, we here at Modern Fashionisto definitely feel as though this was one of his BEST albums ever and arguably one of the best rap albums of the last 10 years. We wish you continued success in the industry Eminem!

Chapter six discussed the legal components of the PR world. In any profession, it is important to make yourself aware of your legal responsibilities. These legal responsibilities stretch far beyond protecting yourself, but can be the key determinant in maintaining the integrity and reputation of the person or organization that you are representing. Familiarizing yourself with legal inputs, particular clauses, and definitions is one of the most important aspects of being a public relations writer. The legal ramifications were also discussed in the chapter. In a lot of ways, this chapter was one of the most important because having the tools as a great PR writer can mean nothing if you lack the wherewithal to know what legal guidelines you can operate within. As a PR writer, it is important to make the most legally responsible decisions as far as both content and media are concerned. There is also several websites that professionals can access that gives them access to case files and examples of transgressions of certain laws.

Created and by former supermodel and fashion industry heavyweight, Tyra Banks, the past 19 seasons of ‘Top Model’ have been known for introducing interesting concepts and pushing the envelope. This season proved no differently. In a series dominated by over 175 contestants and 19 winners (all of whom are female), season 20 made waves by incorporating both males and females–with the aptly titled name, “America’s Next Top Model 2.0: Guys & Girls”.

A motley of talent was displayed as the guys and the girls feverishly competed in a fashion battle for the ages. In competition filled with drama, sweat, and even tears, it came down to the final two contestants:

The finale was a nail biter as the judging panel consisting of Tyra Banks, Rob Evans, Kelly Cutrone and Bryanboy reviewed the final two models’ portfolios and overall body of work through the series. In the end, the winner was chosen…

JOURDAN MILLER!!

The judges all agreed that even though they were pushing for a male to win this season, Jourdan’s overall body of work and profitability as a model far exceeded Marvin’s and she was awarded the title of “America’s Next Top Model”.

Congratulations to all of the contestants as this season was the first of its kind! ANTM is renewed for a 21st season so tune in next fall as Tyra Banks gathers a new group of contestants and determines America’s next top model.

Chapter 13 followed the trend of Chapter eight by further discussing the use of technology in public relations. The web is known for its time efficiency and maximum reach in terms of message output. However, it is also a very important tool for multipurpose utilization. There are several avenues where public relations and the web join in matrimony; a few examples are: tracking public opinion, monitoring competition and even identifying demographics. Public relations practitioners are sometimes intimidated by the distribution and timing aspects of the web but in essence, the web allows for PR professionals to maintain a higher amount of control.

Brevity is another important aspect of web usage. Due to its high volume, emails and information provided over the internet may sometimes be overlooked so it’s imporant to be clear and consise–allowing the public to identify and recive the message. An important component of web usage is being able to identify the Internet public and this audience uses the internet. Identifying the internet public includes separating diligent visitors from casual browsers and critical users. Each group ultimately has a significant web voice and can impact other viewers.

WOW Jessica!! Is that you?! Singer Jessica Simpson is flaunting her new post-baby body again and she looks truly amazing.1384018355_jessica-simpson-weight-watchers_1

Jessica Simpson, who’s suffered from a constant uphill battle with her weight, became the new spokesperson for Weight Watchers in early 2012. Jessica’s body over the years has had its share of fluctuations, due mainly in part to the birth of her two children, Maxwell and Ace. The pop songstress shocked and amazed fans when she took to twitter, saying “”Couldn’t stop smiling on set for my new @weightwatchers campaign today!  #happy.” Accompanied with the tweet was a picture of the 33-year old, singer gleaming with confidence while rocking a noticeably slimmer figure.

In the photo she dons a white blouse, boots and a flattering pair of dark blue jeans.

In an interview with US Weekly, Jessica revealed,

I knew I needed a plan that’s simple and fits into my life, along with the  support that’s so important to my success. I know Weight Watchers works, so I  got on the plan again.”

What’s so different this time around? Simpson went on to explain,

“I’m a lot more confident this time around. With Maxwell I  didn’t think about the weight I was gaining, and the first time I stepped on a  scale and looked at the number…I mean, that wasn’t a number I had ever even  considered…and I was faced with a pretty serious truth. But since I had  already done Weight Watchers, I didn’t put on as much weight with Ace and I just  know a lot more now.”

That hard work is definitely paying off and Jessica looks just as amazing as she did in her “Dukes of Hazard Days”. Remember this?
