“OZ The Great and Powerful” directed by acclaimed visionary and mastermind, Sam Raimi, opened in theaters worldwide this weekend to AHH-MAZINNNGG numbers–80.3 million domestically in Friday-Sunday sales to be exact. Star studded with 3-D special effects and star power to match (James Franco, Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz) to name a few, critics and viewers alike ravished at this beautiful prequel to the 1939 Hollywood classic, “The Wizard of Oz”

This news couldn’t have come at a better time for cinema as Paul Dergarabedian, the top ticket sales analyst for Hollywood.com stated, “Oz is exactly the shot in the arm the industry needed — after six consecutive weekends this year where the box office was down” (see statement here).

If that isn’t enough, the film as already been marked as the third largest opening weekend…like…EVER!! (Following acclaimed science-fiction/action movie, “Hunger Games” and Tim Burton’s 2010 adaptation of “Alice in Wonderlandrespectively)

With huge accolades like this, Disney productions proved that the perfect blend of content, cinematic value and visual effects could produce the perfect masterpiece.
