The CW’s long-running reality television program, America’s Next Top Model, entered its 20th season early this fall. Created and by former supermodel and fashion industry heavyweight, Tyra Banks, the past 19 seasons of ‘Top Model’ have been known for introducing interesting concepts and pushing the envelope. This season proved no differently. In a series dominated by over 175 contestants and 19 winners (all of whom are female), season 20 made waves by incorporating both males and females–with the aptly titled name, “America’s Next Top Model 2.0: Guys & Girls”.

A motley of talent was displayed as the guys and the girls feverishly competed in a fashion battle for the ages. In competition filled with drama, sweat, and even tears, it came down to the final two contestants:

americas-next-top-model-cycle-20-winner(left to right) 19 year-old, Jourdan Miller and 20 year-old, Marvin Cortes.

The finale was a nail biter as the judging panel consisting of Tyra Banks, Rob Evans, Kelly Cutrone and Bryanboy reviewed the final two models’ portfolios and overall body of work through the series. In the end, the winner was chosen…

The judges all agreed that even though they were pushing for a male to win this season, Jourdan’s overall body of work and profitability as a model far exceeded Marvin’s and she was awarded the title of “America’s Next Top Model”.

Congratulations to all of the contestants as this season was the first of its kind! ANTM is renewed for a 21st season so tune in next fall as Tyra Banks gathers a new group of contestants and determines America’s next top model.

Ahh the excitement!! We here at ‘Modern Fashionisto’ LOVE delivering the goods–from celebrity news to our delectable music moments. However, like our name suggests, our mistress is F-F-FASHION!!! (^_^)

The fashion/color trends for Fall 2013 quarter, as presented by FASHION SNOOPS, are as follows:

GRAY: As the smokey offspring of the dichotomous “white and black”, gray is one of those rare colors with dual properties. It can serve as both a delicate, muted accent as well as a rich, bold primary number.

EARTH: This fall, the “outdoorsy” theme is all the rage. Browns, patent leathers, ivories and nude palettes all breaking out from the background and showing the fashion world they can stand out!! [See Timberland look-book]

EMERALDS/PINES: this year has undoubtedly been LOVING green and the Fall 2013 quarter has shown no signs of letting up. Emerald, by many fashion critics, has been jailed as the “color of the year”–its luxurious and elegant overtones support a wide range of texture—> from sparkly, matte, leather and encrusted. Pine is an interesting green that juxtapositions itself quite nicely to winter blues, which shows its immense versatility and crossover appeal.

BLUES: The penultimate cornerstone in the sartorial world, blues have bad one of the most consistent reputations as it relates to RELEVANCE. This past spring saw electric blues at the forefront [See Modern Fashionisto] while this fall focuses on darker and vivacious blues with undertones of purple such as the intriguing, “grape”. This serves the theme for this fall which just happens to be–Duality.

Awards season brings us entertainment, laughs…some uncomfortable moments (cough cough Jennifer Lopez) but most importantly…FASHION. This year’s 55th Annual Grammy Awards did not disappoint. Below are our list of the Best dressed for this year’s show.

Kelly Rowland showed that she was leading lady material in this architecturally designed, black “Georges Chakra Couture” gown with symmetric cut outs.

Rihanna (our personal favorite) deviated from her more edgy fashion statements and showed us her softer side. This beautiful, custom designed red Azzedine Alaia gown with subtle sheer that made our little Ri-Ri “shine bright like a diamond”.

All eyes were on Katy Perry and she looked AH-MAZZZZZZ-ING in this risqué mint green Gucci gown (see Modern Fashionisto’s color predictions). Her hair and makeup were flawless but the real standouts of this ensemble…well you be the judge.

Our little Taylor swift as of recently has improved leaps and bounds fashion wise and definitely kept the momentum going at the Grammy’s. She turned heads in this elegantly structured J. Mendel grecian inspired gown with metallic trimming.

That’s our fashion round up! Stay tunes for Oscar’s fashion coverage February 24th!!!

What better way to start the brand new year than with my predictions on the FIRST thing that ‘fashionistas’ and ‘fashionistos’ alike must take into account before slipping on those stylish garments—COLOR!

However before I give you an inside look into the future 2013 color blueprints, let’s press the rewind button and visit the color trends and combinations that made 2012 so amazing.

texture.Texture.TEXTURE!! 2012 served as the perfect matrimony of accouterments–neutrals, browns and matte colors being perfectly coupled with their more vivid counterparts– tangerine orange, electric yellows, daring reds and soothing blues.

2013 color predictions: Call it a “hunch” but..

  • “Why so Blue? Well, the question this spring will be WHY NOT? Tantalizing cobalts and romantic navy blues are projected to be standouts this year.
  • Be prepared this spring as bright greens, teals, blue/green mesh and the effervescent spearmint greens are sure to make everyone “Green with envy”
  • Yellows and Oranges will deviate from the bold, neon impressions of 2012 and crossover into a more saturated, matte territory.
  • Earth tones are making a comback in a huge way! Darker browns, olives and nude colors are set to be one of the more dominant colors in men’s and women’s fashion alike this year.

HONORABLE MENTIONS: Blacks and Purples are long-standing regulars in fashion and will undoubtedly lay their marks on the red carpet this year–but to what extent? the verdict is still out.

TRENDS: This year expect to see a ton of fresh embroideries, cut-outs, sheer embellishments and sequin accents. I also smell more Metallics!
