Rap heavyweight, Eminem recently released his eighth studio album, “Marshall Mathers LP 2” which subtly serves as a follow-up to his critically acclaimed, “Marshall Mathers, LP”. Eminem proved once again that he reigns supreme in the  hip-hop realm, with first-week sales of 792,000, according to Nielsen Scoundscan. The album’s sales right rightfully give it the second-best album debut sales of the year. Regardless of the fact that it failed to hit the highest sales of the year–a crown still held by the Justin Timberlake’s 20/20 Experience, which opened in March of this year to an impressive 968,000, it still makes a relatively impressive debut for Eminem. On top of the fact that the MMLP2 has the second-best debut of 2013, it is Eminem’s second-best opening week since his 2000 Mathers LP

In a recent article with Complex magazine, the now 41 year-old rapper stated,


“When I started recording this album, a lot of the songs that I would play for people, they were saying it reminded them of that era. Which was kinda what I was going for in the first place, but the fact that other people started taking notice made sense. It’s revisiting some themes on The Marshall Mathers LP, but it’s obviously a different time period in my life. So that’s why I wouldn’t call it a sequel. A sequel would just be a continuation of everything that was on there.”

Fans, critics and other hip-hop artists praised Eminem for his “focus, wit, and unprecedented growth” throughout the album. The founder of KWL Enterprises and former president of Def Jam Records, Kevin Liles, went on to say, “Eminem is Elvis. Eminem is one of the greatest rappers of all time. He continues to do Eminem and not chase a particular sound–and not only be an artist, but create art.”

As fans of Eminem, we here at Modern Fashionisto definitely feel as though this was one of his BEST albums ever and arguably one of the best rap albums of the last 10 years. We wish you continued success in the industry Eminem!

Two months ago we reported that our very own princess of pop, Britney Spears, was working hard in the studio to bring us her eighth album. As if the first single “Work B!tch” and its subsequent music video weren’t enough to satisfy Britney fans around the globe, the pop megastar took to twitter to unveil the album cover of her new aptly titled album, “Britney Jean”.
Collaborators and producers of this album have been titillating our taste buds, praising this album for its innovation and maturity, while Ms. Spears herself revealed that this album is her most personal to date.

On the album cover, Britney is seen rocking her blonde tresses, coupled with her signature smolder. The album’s title Britney Jean is written in a bold “80’s diner inspired” neon script. In a recent interview, Spears described the album as “moody” and “electric” and this artwork is the very embodiment of that!

Britney also delighted fans by writing a touching letter, thanking fans for the 15 plus years of support,

“Dear Fans,
I haven’t sat down to write you guys in SUCH a long time. Long overdue! We’re all so used to getting our thoughts out in 140 characters, but sometimes its nice to take time to sit down and write something a little longer and more personal. I am putting the finishing touches on my new album, “Britney Jean” over the next few days and I am so excited for you to hear it. I poured my heart and soul into this album and it’s been an incredible journey. I’ve learned a lot about myself, and as I am finishing, I am reminded of the incredible foundation that has supported me for the last 15 years.

Thank you all for continuing to follow me on this journey and for allowing me to do what I love to do. I can’t believe this is my eighth studio album and I know I keep telling you that it is my most personal record yet, but its true and I’m really proud of that.
I have been through a lot in the past few years and it has really inspired me to dig deeper and write songs that I think everyone can relate to. Working with people like Sia, William Orbit, and of course has been an amazing experience. They have listened to all of my ideas and helped me bring them to life. There are a lot of really fun, upbeat dance songs, but it was important to me that I show my strength, and my attitude, and my vulnerability. Of course, I also have some surprises for you guys 😉

After this heartfelt letter, fans everywhere are feeling the Britney “Spearit”!!! The pieces are slowly coming together and we couldn’t be more excited for this journey in Britney Spears’ career!!

Loving Katy Perry has been a hobby of ours for seven plus years now, so one can only begin to imagine how dangerously delighted we were to find out that CoverGirl introduced Perry as their newest spokesperson for their Spring 2014 campaign. The pop star also joins an illustrious line-up of other celebrity spokeswomen of the cosmetic line including Sofia Vergara, P!nk and Ellen DeGeneres.

Katy took to social networking and tweeted,


“BEAUTIFUL news to share w/you all. Today is my 1st day as a @COVERGIRL! See what happens when you let the light in? #COVERGIRLKATY,”

The news of her first ever beauty endorsement comes only days before her highly anticipated album Prism hits the shelves Oct. 22.

Perry has been known and often polarized for her bold aesthetic choices so it surprises us in the least that CoverGirl chose her to represent their “bold new beauty looks” campaign. In the ad, Perry can be seen wearing a minimal amount of CoverGirl Clean Glow Blush in “Roses” and a bold application of CoverGirl LipPerfection in “Euphoria”–a true beauty.

In a public statement regarding her partnership with CoverGirl, she stated:

“In addition to music, I’ve always considered makeup to be a powerful creative avenue of self-expression. I’m honored to partner with COVERGIRL and share more colors and textures of my approach to beauty to inspire my audience.”

Fans aren’t the only ones excited about this! Esi Eggleston Bracey, VP and general manager of CoverGirl Cosmetics, revealed, “Never afraid to express emotion, strength, vulnerability or independence, Katy is the embodiment of a true COVERGIRL — someone we root for, identify with, and get inspiration from.”

This is just the cherry on top on what has already been such a lucrative and amazing year for Perry. We wish her continued success and are paralyzed with excitement for the Spring 2014 campaign.

So naturally you can just imagine our excitement when we saw this! On her Instagram page, B.Spears illustriously let the cat out of the bag that she’s working on a new album (see above picture)! Needless to say we’ve purchased all 7 of her studio albums and we may be getting a little ahead of ourselves, but by the above description…we think album 8 may be the best one YET!

Katy Perry has been one of our favorites since she first burst onto the music scene with her 2008 smash single “I Kissed A Girl”. Fast forward to 2013 and fresh off the announcement of her highly anticipated album, Prism, Perry continues to establish herself as a heavyweight in pop music. Her most recent single, “ROAR” has been climbing the charts….and FAST. According to, her new single has sold an IMPRESSIVE 557,000 digital sales–(50,000 higher than musical industry professionals had previously predicted) AND has broken 2 records for the pop diva

  • The 1st– the highest digital song sales week of 2013 to date
  • The 2nd– the highest digital song sale week of Perry’s career [beating out her previous record of 509,000 with her 2010 hit, “Firework”]


We have to admit, when we first heard months back that this new album would be “darker” and “heavier” we had no idea what to expect from the BUBBLY, candy colored hair-rocking, whipped cream bra-wearing Katy that we’ve come to grow and LOVE. However, this single put to rest any reservations that we here at Modern Fashionisto may have had. We are so excited for Perry and if the success of this single alone is any indication of the rest of the album….well us #Katycats are in for a treat!!!

Country superstar and resident jokester, Blake Shelton teamed up with rising star Luke James for the April 7, 2013 telecast of the “48th Annual Academy Country Music Awards”. This CBS telecast, broadcasted live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, is the most honored and celebrated music event in the country music world.

In typical ACM fashion, there was no shortage of laughs as co hosts Blake and Luke jokingly traded banter in opening the show. Check out the dynamic duo’s SIDE-SPLITTING dialogue below


On a more serious note there were truly some touching moments as country power couple Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert’s collaborative efforts earned them a win for ‘best song’–“Over You”.
The night was filled with laughs, tears and everything else in between, making up to be one of the most entertaining ACM telecasts to date.

Justin Timberlakes’s junior effort, “The 20/20 Experience” is easily Tumberlake’s most mature and inspired musical effort to date. Hard to believe it’s been 7 WHOLE YEARS since this musical crooner blessed us with his soulful voice and tantalizing tenor.

                                 Timberlake’s formula this time around?– “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!”

For this project (which is also a “2-part” album, confirmed by Timberlake to be released later this year), J.T.  reunited with musical genius,” Timbaland”– the same mega producer and ingenue who innovated the  multifarious electro/R&B infused sound for his critically acclaimed sophomore album, “Future Sex/Love Sounds”.

In the past, Timberlake has addressed his hiatus from the music scene, listing a wide array of reasons ranging  from an overall lack of inspiration, to his seemingly heavy focus on his blossoming acting career–needless to say we’re more than happy to have him back and better than ever!!

“The 20/20 Experience” was released March 15th and has since, been met with favorable reviews from his industry peers and critics alike. In an article with Billboard Biz, surrounding the current and projected success of the album, it states,

It’s possible that 20/20 could reach a million, but sources are hesitant to go that far with their sales projections. We’ll have to see how the rest of Sunday shakes out for the album. But, it would seem that the album has a quite real shot at reaching the magic million mark.

If 20/20 sells a million in its first week, the RCA Records set would become only the 19th album to do so since SoundScan started tracking music sales in 1991. The last album to sell a million in a week was Taylor Swift’s Red, which moved 1.2 million when it debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart last fall.

Presently, Timberlake is gunning for the best sales week for an album by a male artist since Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV sold 964,000 when it debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 dated Sept. 17, 2011.

On May 11 — before the RCA Records album came out on March 19 — Billboard first reported that 20/20 was headed for at least 500,000. Then, once the album did drop, its sales projection jumped to 750,000 on the 20th, 800,000 on the 21st, 850,000 to 900,000 on the 22 and now 950,000 to 975,000 today (24). (BillboardBiz)

This is quite a success especially considering his record of “first week sales”

  • Justified– 439,000 copies first week
  • Future Sex/Love Sounds– 684,000 first week
  • The 20/20 Experience– 1 million (projected) update- 984,000

Well color us completely impressed!! We love Justin Timberlake and heavily urge all of our readers to buy the album. It truly is a feast for the ears!
