Rap heavyweight, Eminem recently released his eighth studio album, “Marshall Mathers LP 2” which subtly serves as a follow-up to his critically acclaimed, “Marshall Mathers, LP”. Eminem proved once again that he reigns supreme in the  hip-hop realm, with first-week sales of 792,000, according to Nielsen Scoundscan. The album’s sales right rightfully give it the second-best album debut sales of the year. Regardless of the fact that it failed to hit the highest sales of the year–a crown still held by the Justin Timberlake’s 20/20 Experience, which opened in March of this year to an impressive 968,000, it still makes a relatively impressive debut for Eminem. On top of the fact that the MMLP2 has the second-best debut of 2013, it is Eminem’s second-best opening week since his 2000 Mathers LP

In a recent article with Complex magazine, the now 41 year-old rapper stated,

“When I started recording this album, a lot of the songs that I would play for people, they were saying it reminded them of that era. Which was kinda what I was going for in the first place, but the fact that other people started taking notice made sense. It’s revisiting some themes on The Marshall Mathers LP, but it’s obviously a different time period in my life. So that’s why I wouldn’t call it a sequel. A sequel would just be a continuation of everything that was on there.”

Fans, critics and other hip-hop artists praised Eminem for his “focus, wit, and unprecedented growth” throughout the album. The founder of KWL Enterprises and former president of Def Jam Records, Kevin Liles, went on to say, “Eminem is Elvis. Eminem is one of the greatest rappers of all time. He continues to do Eminem and not chase a particular sound–and not only be an artist, but create art.”

As fans of Eminem, we here at Modern Fashionisto definitely feel as though this was one of his BEST albums ever and arguably one of the best rap albums of the last 10 years. We wish you continued success in the industry Eminem!

The CW’s long-running reality television program, America’s Next Top Model, entered its 20th season early this fall. Created and by former supermodel and fashion industry heavyweight, Tyra Banks, the past 19 seasons of ‘Top Model’ have been known for introducing interesting concepts and pushing the envelope. This season proved no differently. In a series dominated by over 175 contestants and 19 winners (all of whom are female), season 20 made waves by incorporating both males and females–with the aptly titled name, “America’s Next Top Model 2.0: Guys & Girls”.

A motley of talent was displayed as the guys and the girls feverishly competed in a fashion battle for the ages. In competition filled with drama, sweat, and even tears, it came down to the final two contestants:

americas-next-top-model-cycle-20-winner(left to right) 19 year-old, Jourdan Miller and 20 year-old, Marvin Cortes.

The finale was a nail biter as the judging panel consisting of Tyra Banks, Rob Evans, Kelly Cutrone and Bryanboy reviewed the final two models’ portfolios and overall body of work through the series. In the end, the winner was chosen…

The judges all agreed that even though they were pushing for a male to win this season, Jourdan’s overall body of work and profitability as a model far exceeded Marvin’s and she was awarded the title of “America’s Next Top Model”.

Congratulations to all of the contestants as this season was the first of its kind! ANTM is renewed for a 21st season so tune in next fall as Tyra Banks gathers a new group of contestants and determines America’s next top model.

Two months ago we reported that our very own princess of pop, Britney Spears, was working hard in the studio to bring us her eighth album. As if the first single “Work B!tch” and its subsequent music video weren’t enough to satisfy Britney fans around the globe, the pop megastar took to twitter to unveil the album cover of her new aptly titled album, “Britney Jean”.
Collaborators and producers of this album have been titillating our taste buds, praising this album for its innovation and maturity, while Ms. Spears herself revealed that this album is her most personal to date.

On the album cover, Britney is seen rocking her blonde tresses, coupled with her signature smolder. The album’s title Britney Jean is written in a bold “80’s diner inspired” neon script. In a recent interview, Spears described the album as “moody” and “electric” and this artwork is the very embodiment of that!

Britney also delighted fans by writing a touching letter, thanking fans for the 15 plus years of support,

“Dear Fans,
I haven’t sat down to write you guys in SUCH a long time. Long overdue! We’re all so used to getting our thoughts out in 140 characters, but sometimes its nice to take time to sit down and write something a little longer and more personal. I am putting the finishing touches on my new album, “Britney Jean” over the next few days and I am so excited for you to hear it. I poured my heart and soul into this album and it’s been an incredible journey. I’ve learned a lot about myself, and as I am finishing, I am reminded of the incredible foundation that has supported me for the last 15 years.

Thank you all for continuing to follow me on this journey and for allowing me to do what I love to do. I can’t believe this is my eighth studio album and I know I keep telling you that it is my most personal record yet, but its true and I’m really proud of that.
I have been through a lot in the past few years and it has really inspired me to dig deeper and write songs that I think everyone can relate to. Working with people like Sia, William Orbit, and of course has been an amazing experience. They have listened to all of my ideas and helped me bring them to life. There are a lot of really fun, upbeat dance songs, but it was important to me that I show my strength, and my attitude, and my vulnerability. Of course, I also have some surprises for you guys 😉

I want to show you the different sides of Britney Spears. I am a performer. I am a Mom. I am funny. I am your friend! I am Britney Jean.

Hope you love my labor of love!

Love Always,Britney”

After this heartfelt letter, fans everywhere are feeling the Britney “Spearit”!!! The pieces are slowly coming together and we couldn’t be more excited for this journey in Britney Spears’ career!!

“Britney Jean” will hit shelves December 3rd!!!

AMC’s “The Walking Dead” has been a juggernaut in the cable television industry since its inception in 2010. Loosely based on a comic of the same name, The Walking Dead takes place in a post-apocalyptic, zombie infested world–each episode following a group of individuals as they literally fight their way to continue to survive. Season 3 concluded last fall with groundbreaking numbers as 12.4 million viewers (8.1 million adults 18-49 demographic) tuned in–a record high for the series. Success like this just can’t be outdone…right?

Season 4 of the vastly popular AMC show premiered Sunday and brought in monumental numbers at the tune of 16.1 million viewers (10.4 million adults 18-49 demographic) . This not only marks a a record high for the series, but also sets precedent as the most watched season premiere in cable television history! That’s amazing!

President of AMC released a statement in response to the huge success of the show, saying,

“Sincere thanks to the fans, who have welcomed The Walking Dead back for its fourth season with the highest-rated episode in the show’s history…we could not be more proud of this show and everyone on both sides of the camera who work so hard to give life to this story of character, leadership and survival. It starts with series creator, writer and executive producer Robert Kirkman, show runner and executive producer Scott Gimple and the director of last night’s episode (and the man behind the make-up) executive producer Greg Nicotero, their fellow executive producers and an extraordinary cast and crew who are giving their all every day. So clearly, thanks to them, the dead have never been more alive.”

This truly is an amazing victory and an exciting precursor of what we can expect this fall from our favorite flesh-eating show.

Tune in to “The Walking Dead” Sundays 9/8c on AMC!!

The princess of pop has done it again! Fresh from the release of her critically acclaimed new single, “WorkB**ch”, Britney released the highly anticipated new music video October 1st! Modern Fashionisto has a huge, HUGE affinity for Ms. Spears so it only makes sense that we give you a play by play of the music video.

This music video gives us typical sultry-eyed Britney in her purest pop form, yet manages to give viewers a more mature, stylized version that tantalizes the senses in every way.
The video opens in classic Spears seductive fashion as the pop princess, now 31, flaunts her amazing body alongside her fabulous dancers–enticing viewers with seductive poses against a beautiful white backdrop.

Queue the sexy fog!

The following scene cuts to the desert as Britney seductively glazes in the mirror and endearingly tells viewers “Now get to work b**ch”. However, it wouldn’t be a Britney video if there wasn’t ‘product placement’. In   the midst of all the flaring electronic beats and pop glamour, Spears manages to promote her new fragrance, “Fantasy Twist” (on shelves now)—she’s a clever one that Britney.

Just as we thought this video couldn’t get anymore sassy, Britney Spears and her motley of dancers come strutting their stuff down a white square runway accompanied by a stunning view of the Malibu Desert.

This video also shows the pop princess as she delivers some of her strongest choreography in years. The video’s standout dance scene shows Spears, dressed in a modern yellow and black bustier ensemble with gloves while ingeniously paying homage to herself circa her 2003 “Me Against the Music” music video.

See the resemblance?

As the video progresses, there are explosions, S&M, sharks (Yes…sharks) and brilliant visual imagery!!

In one of the last, and arguably boldest, scenes of the music video Britney, atop an inverted, pyramid asserts her dominion as she holds the chains to what some may suggest may subliminally represent the other pop divas of today’s industry.

One word: WERKB**CH

Britney Spears’ latest music video was a feast for the eyes and has established itself as one of our favorite videos to date. This 8th album is sure to be EPIC!

CBS’ Big Brother is one of the longest standing and most polarizing summer reality television series in modern day history. The format is simple–a group of 14-16 individuals from all walks of life are sequestered in a house filled with cameras and microphones. This 24 hour surveillance gives the viewers a firsthand look at all of the explosive drama that unfolds. Through a series of physical an mental competitions, as well as strategy, the house guests are evicted from the house one by one and the last houseguest wins the grand prize of $500,000!

Season 15 just wrapped last Thursday and contestants Andy Herren and GinaMarie Zimmerman found themselves in the final two with Andy, a professor from Chicago, being awarded the grand prize by a 7-2 vote. In a game show with a 13 season history marked predominantly by heterosexual men reigning as winners, this win for Andy is HUGE in that he is the first openly homosexual contestant to ever win Big Brother!

Personally? We here at Modern Fashionisto were rooting for the “super-strategist/puppeteer Amanda Zuckerman, but we are proud nevertheless. (^_^)

HUGE congratulations Andy! You played a great game and your win was well deserved!

What are your thoughts? Did you think Andy deserved the win? Leave your thoughts!

Here at Modern Fashionisto, we aways pride ourselves on delivering current celebrity, fashion and music news. This week we wanted to do something a little different and let our readers in on our favorite TV shows! The top 5 to be exact. The list is as follows:

5. Breaking Bad (crime drama) [AMC]

Breaking Bad is one of the most rivoting crime dramas, possible in television history. The show revolves around cheimstry teacher, Walter White, and shows his dark transformation from the ailing, feeble chmistry teacher to girsly drug overlord. It has drama, passion and enough action to make a big budge action movie look like child’s play.

4.) Grey’s Anatomy (medical drama) [ABC]

Unless you’ve been living under the largest rock in America, you’ve heard of Grey’s Anatomy. This emmy winning drama had us from first “scrub in” and we haven’t been able to let go since. Grey’s is one of those shows with just the right amount o style, emotional depth and medical acuity all intertwined in one. The love, lies and tragedy all revolve around the beloved protagnoist, Meredith Grey in a way that makes this show simply, magical.

3.) Dexter (psychological thriller) [SHO]

Dexter is a psychological feast for the brains. It follows Dexter Morgan as he (with surprising success) leades two lives. By day, he is a loving brother and forensic blood splatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department–byt night, a ruthless serial killer. There’s a catch however; Dexter only kills other serial killer due to his own “ethical code”. Therein lies the beauty of Dexter–he manages to make viewers question their own moral compasses as they sometimes find themselves conflicted or whether to root for or against him.

2.) Big Brother (reality game show) [CBS]

Big Brother is a summer reality series that sequesters a group of strangers in a house and puts them through a series of physical and menatal competitions. The last person standing wins the grand prize of $500,000.

1.) Charmed (supernatural drama) [WB/CW/TNT]

The longest runnind series with an all female lead–this supernatural drama produced by the late Aaron Spelling, follows the lives of “The Charmed Ones”. The Charmed Ones consist of three sisters who are prophetically the most powerful witches in the paranormal universe. This show sweeps viewers away into a cloud of witchcraft, werewolves, sirens and demons all while adding an overwhelming element of humanity through family values.
