Hollywood lost one of its brightest stars as the 40-year-old “Fast & Furious” actor, Paul Walker, lost his life in a tragic crash Saturday afternoon.  According to multiple sources, the actor was in Santa Clarita, California, for a car show to support relief effort for Philippine typhoon victims. Walker and his friend/business partner Roger Rodas, who was driving the Porsche they were in, both died when Rodas reportedly lost control of the car.

The actor’s representative, Ame Van Iden released a statement, saying,

“It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide. He was a passenger in a friend’s car, in which both lost their lives. We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news. Thank you for keeping his family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time. We will do our best to keep you apprised on where to send condolences. – #TeamPW”

He was best known for his acclaimed work in the action franchise, “The Fast And The Furious”,  in which he starred in five of the six movies, beginning with the very first film in June of 2001. Aside from his signature bright blue eyes and striking good looks, he was known for his humility, bravery and philanthropic endeavors.fast-furious-the-fast-and-the-furious-movies-5012351-1600-1200

According to ABC News, Universal released a statement,

All of us at Universal are heartbroken,” Universal Pictures, which has released the “Fast & Furious” franchise, said in a statement. “Paul was truly one of the most beloved and respected members of our studio family for 14 years, and this loss is devastating to us, to everyone involved with the ‘Fast and Furious’ films, and to countless fans.

Mr. Walker, unlike much of Hollywood, did not indulge in the party scene. He enjoyed the quiet life with his 15-year-old daughter, Meadow.

In March, he told “Entertainment Weekly” that he didn’t feel entirely at ease in the limelight. “I’ve always been one foot in, one foot out of this game because I’m not comfortable with being on the pedestal or the poster,” he said. “That’s just not who I am. I’m more like the grunt. I want to be the guy behind the guy.”

Hollywood, and Walker’s family and friends are deeply saddened at this sudden loss. It’s a tragedy. Walker is survived by his daughter, Meadow. In addition to his daughter, Meadow, Walker is survived by his father, Paul Walker III; his mother, Cheryl Walker; two brothers, Cody and Caleb; and a sister, Ashley.

We here at Modern Fashionisto send our deepest condolences and prayers to all of those affected by Walker and Rodas’ death.

20130402-152941.jpgWe here at Modern Fashionisto pride ourselves as being avid supporters in the fight against the burgeoning of bullying in ANY capacity. One of our idol’s–singer, actress, mother and philanthropist–Jada Pinkett- Smith, recently wrote an open letter to the public on the issue of bullying in relation to young artists and celebrities (specifically Justin Bieber, Rihanna and Taylor Swift)

How can we ask for our young stars to have a high level of responsibility if we are not demonstrating that same level of responsibility towards them?

This last week, I had to really evaluate the communication in regard to our young artists in the media. I was trying to differentiate cyber-bullying from how we attack and ridicule our young stars through media and social networks. It is as if we have forgotten what it means to be young or even how to behave like good ol’ grown folk.

[on Justin Bieber]
Do we feel as though we can say and do what we please without demonstrating any responsibility simply because they are famous? Is it okay to continually attack and criticize a famous 19 year old who is simply trying to build a life, exercise his talents while figuring out what manhood and fame is all about as he carries the weight of supporting his family as well as providing the paychecks to others who depend on him to work so they can feed their families as well?

[on Rihanna]…Or what about being a young woman in her early twenties, exploring the intricacies of love and power on the world stage?

[on Taylor Swift]…And should we shame a young woman for displaying a sense of innocence as she navigates through the murky waters of love, heartbreak, and fame? Are these young people not allowed to be young, make mistakes, grow, and eventually transform a million times before our eyes? Are we asking them to defy the laws of nature because of who they are? Why can’t we congratulate them for the capacity to work through their challenges on a world stage and still deliver products that keep them on top. We all know how hard it is to keep our head above water, even in the privacy of our own homes let alone on the world stage. Imagine yourself, at their age, with the spotlights, challenges and responsibilities. Most of us would have fallen to the waste side before we could even get to a crashed Ferrari, a controversial romance, several heart breaks, or an Oscar nomination at NINE [Quvenzhané Wallis] We WISH we could have had the capacity to accomplish HALF of what they have accomplished along with ALL these challenges they face.

But…maybe THAT’S the problem…we WISH we could have or even…we WISH we could.

It’s easy for us to berate those in the spotlight , but at the end of the day we are all human and fall victim to the pitfalls of life. Very well said Mrs. Pinkett Smith.

Tiffany-Foxx

Tiffany Foxx is the latest female rapper to blast onto the scene and she’s doing it in a MAY-JAH way!! Packed with beauty, eyelashes, and a sharp tongue that’ll make even the most seasoned rapper sweat–Foxx is quickly rising up the ranks. This St. Louis native grew from humble beginnings and made waves in the music scene with her primordial all girl group, “June 5” (with members Scar La Don and Brooke Holladay) in 2007. In typical superstar fashion, Tiffany decided to hone her creative skills and pursue a solo career in 2009 and has since shown no signs of slowing down. In 2012 she released her mixtape “Yellow Tape” which upon release was met with RAVE reviews. (listen)

Now, we’d be absolutely remiss to touch on the fact her mentor is none other than the rap heavyweight “Lil Kim”!! Ahh EXCITEMENT! In a recent interview with DJ Whoo Kid on Sirius XM, she spoke of her protege, “When first met her, I knew she wasnt there yet, she had a lot of potential though. She kept at it and that’s what I like about her. From the day I met her, I knew she was a hustler. “

Wow..how humbling to have someone as established and successful as Lil’ Kim speak so highly!

DUALITY!! The first word that comes to Modern Fashionisto’s head when thinking about Foxx. The perfect blend of aesthetic and hard hitting lyrics. Definitely refreshing. With a huge underground following and steady growing mainstream fan base, we predict that Foxx is on the fast track to rap royalty. Keep an eye out for this one people!!
